a doorway is opened from daylight, towards a place where the liminal beckons us forward. what is held beyond the hands, here? what lays awake, yet dreaming? the whispering emergence escorts us through a dawn, where the arch-way sky bends into an iris and we are transformed. -raychelanne
in this newsletter, we are sharing the dreamy artwork by Jenny Lloyd, Iris, as seen in her collection, Wildflowers of Palestine series, which you might remember from other newsletters. sitting alongside her, is poetry by Ana Reisens, “Etiquette for the Opening of Doors”. these works draw bridges between one another, between worlds, the seen and unseen. as we delve into their landscape, they invite us through the hopeful gateway of a blossoming. within them, may they guide you courageously towards the brink as they have done for us.
ETIQUETTE FOR THE OPENING OF DOORS Ana Reisens “Old ways won’t open new doors.” -Anonymous You’ll reach it first. The ancient pages of creation gave you longer legs, and I have been climbing for miles. Open it. There’s no need to bow or sigh or cry out white-knight-triumphant, no need to whistle, or wink, or stare. Just let me enter. But know that there will be a second door, an opening neither of us has reached. May we stand side by side at this new beginning as I extend my arm for both us of pass – and if there’s a dragon or an apple waiting on the other side, we’ll face it together. Ana Reisens is a poetry farmer. Born and raised in the American Midwest, she now tends to her crop in the sun-bathed soil of Spain. She was the recipient of the 2020 Barbara Mandigo Kelly Peace Poetry Award and you can find her poetry sprouting in Bracken, Sixfold, and The Sunlight Press, among other places.
