landscapes are shifting. eldest dance of shadow and light clothes memories in dying branches and soft bird-song. the moon is weeping, yet we see a silver world. we gather new fragments, kiss menhirs, invoke guardians of our past. we remake what we left behind. Saraswati Nagpal
this remaking of things is a solitary pursuit. when we meet others like us, we are amazed. i knew i was, the first time i walked into a room of writers. it was a miracle to be amongst other fragment-gatherers, to know that they too had travelled inner continents in the pursuit of elusive truths, and like me, had toiled to bring back words that shone.
collectively, our work bears sweet fruit. after much loving labour from our editorial team, our print journal, HINTERLAND is here. we are excited for you to read it and bask in the beauty of work from poets and artists around the world. amazon links come later, but first, sharing her vision for the issue is our EIC, Jai Michelle Louissen with a little peak inside our print pages. perhaps it will inspire you to support us with a purchase.
FROM THE EDITOR leaves bleed like paint on a canvas. lessened, the light incubates a distant hill. language is furnaced in loss. words fall open with longing, travel like smoke to woods and ancestors, they whisper back across snowdrifts and sealight, on the fine hairs within your heart. you succumb to the wilt of sound, the immensity of chasms, the flood of wingspan and folk tales. the land sleeps now collecting us all behind its sweeping curtain. welcome to our third print edition, HINTERLAND. We feel honoured to bring you writing and art at the winged moon, fashioning the landscape with radically felt work that hums in the theme’s intense questions. What exists at the edges of us? Who are we at our furthest point? So many of the pieces will traverse the reader through the varying realms of hinterland, each ring moving its boundary to meet its unique and intentional mien. Perhaps, there will be a relishing in this un-becoming, the white space beyond the words, a pause to breathe.
and here are our links
